Passenger Platform, Rotunda & Ramps

The view from one of the now-demolished passenger platforms south of Union Terminal.

This is a great perspective of Cincinnati Union Terminal, captured from one of the passenger platforms. No one really gets to see Union Terminal from this vantage point anymore, save the people who work the freight yard.

The photo lets us see just how much of Union Terminal was not the Rotunda, which comprises a good part of the structure today. The Concourse was huge, and the ramps are still a large portion of the building – it’s where 3 different museums and the Cincinnati Historical Library are housed today.

I’ve always loved this view. One of the most artistically composed photos of the entire construction set. And, as it says above, a view of the Terminal not easily or often seen anymore. The graceful lines of the place extend to the business (back) end of the Terminal and aren’t just limited to the front.
