Smoking was a big part of American life around the middle of the last century. Smokers had two choices for feeding their habit, lighters and matches.
The railroads in their efforts to make their customers comfortable at every turn, offered matchbooks with their branding, colors and route information. Some of these matchbooks and matchboxes were clever or downright truly ingenious in performing the task of keeping the railroad’s name in the forefront of riders’ minds.
We found a sizable stash of matchbooks in the Railroad Club’s collection – please check out the gallery of images!
